Earth Day 2022: Invest in our Planet by Dede Tabak, April 11 2022, 2 Comments

Earth Day 2022 is almost here! Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to raise awareness and support for environmental protection. This year, the theme is “Invest in our Planet”, calling on both businesses and individuals to contribute to the fight for climate change.

What started as a grassroots march in 1970 where 20 million people participated, Earth Day now includes a wide range of events coordinated by Earthday.org, which involve over 1 billion people from 193 countries.

This Earth Day 2022, it’s important for organizations to step up and explore ways to reduce their carbon footprint so we can achieve a more sustainable future.

Here are five ways you and your business can celebrate Earth Day this year:

  1. Create a “Green Team” for Your Company

Assemble a team of employees who can identify and put into action a number of initiatives that can help your organization:

  • Reduces waste
  • Decreases energy usage
  • Educate your broader team about how to be successful in reducing their own carbon footprint as well as the company's
  1. Eliminate Non-Sustainable, Single-Use Office Supplies

Ditch the single-use items. Having your company opt for more sustainable and recyclable supplies is a great way to positively impact the planet. Instead of paper cups and goods, use washable cups, plates and cutlery in your office kitchen. You can also encourage everyone to print less often and use less paper. One way to achieve this is to provide employees with reusable options, like the ones below.

  1. Opt for Sustainable Company Swag and Gifts

Choose more sustainable materials over plastic. Instead of investing in wasteful, plastic items for your company's swag, seek quality eco-friendly items to promote your company or brand. These are some great options to showcase your company’s commitment to sustainability:

  1. Participate in a Local Cleanup

Find a local event in your community and have fun participating together as a company. This year, Ecoplum is joining Friends of Morningside to clean up Morningside Park in New York City! It’s a special way to not only bond as a team and give back to the planet, but to encourage similar actions within your organization as well.

Here is a resource to find a cleanup in your area

  1. Plant a Tree or Garden

Make Earth even greener! Trees are vital to the health of our ecosystems, wildlife and the air we breathe. A fun way to spark employee eco-engagement is to plant a tree (or a few!), or a garden in an available green area. And why not inspire your company with these exciting gifts!

Organizations all over the world are realizing that sustainability is the way to grow and evolve a business. Now is the time for everyone to invest in our planet!

Regarding this year’s Earth Day theme, EarthDay.Org had this to say:

“This is the moment to change it all— he business climate, the political climate, and how we take action on climate. Now is the time for the unstoppable courage to preserve and protect our health, our families, our livelihoods… together, we must Invest In Our Planet.

Because a green future is a prosperous future.

We need to act (boldly), innovate (broadly), and implement (equitably). It’s going to take all of us. All in. Businesses, governments, and citizens—everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet.

And while there is still time to solve the climate crisis, time to choose BOTH a prosperous and sustainable future, and time to restore nature and build a healthy planet for our children and their children, time is short.

The Earth Day 2022 Theme is Invest In Our Planet. What Will You Do?”

We hope you're ready to join the action. Check out these resources for more information about events for Earth Day and for everyday resources to help the fight for climate change!
